Five guest characters that I’d love to see in Soul Calibur 6.

With Soul Calibur 6 out on the 19th of October, we only have one confirmed guest character in Geralt of Rivia from The Witcher with promises of more.

Soul Calibur is notorious with guest characters, such as Heihachi, Yoda, Link and let’s try and forget The Apprentice from The Force Unleashed. With this in mind, we are going to take a look at characters that deserve to find themselves at welcomed (in some cases back) to the Stage of History.

Honorable mentions:

Final Fantasy characters that aren’t Cloud, let’s talk Sephiroth, Tidus or even Auron because he’s the greatest, Kiryu or Majima from the Yakuza series, William from Nioh and, one from left field, I’d totally be down for seeing Reinhardt in Overwatch skelping folk with his hammer.

With that out the way, let’s get down to it.

  1. Heihachi Mishima/Kazuya Mishimi

How could you not?

I’m an absolutely massive advocate for having ‘Father of the Year 1994-2018’ in every single game ever made but he has to come back in Soul Calibur 6.

He made an appearance in Soul Calibur 2 and absolutely bossed it with his familiar Mishima fighting style, so would it be out of the realms of possibility to see him return and have him stumble across some of the revisited events of the original Soul Calibur as Bandai Namco have confirmed.

Failing that, if they wanted to swerve us all then they could even throw Kazuya into the mix with his Soul Charge (powered up state) taking him to the form of Devil Kazuya (nifty, right?)

2. Bloodborne/Dark Souls character.

I tried to commit to saying a generic hunter from Bloodborne would be a good option but there’s far too many characters that are involved in the From Software worlds that deserve more screen time.

There are a handful that could be picked that would be excellent additions, like Solaire, Artorias and even Gehrman who would all neatly fit into that world.

The one that I’d love to see would be Father Gascoigne. Hear me out.

Picture the scene: The camera rotates around the graveyard setting of old Gazza’s boss fight, you hear the music and the familiar twinkling tones of Bloodborne in the background and then it zooms into the man himself still just a hunter on the hunt.

His fighting style and trick weaponry would be amazing in Soul Calibur but what really wins it for me is the potential for having beast Gascoigne using his claws and stuff in his Soul Charge state.

“Ooh, what’s that smell… The sweet blood, ooh, it sings to me! It’s enough to make a man sick.”

3. Kratos (2018)

Right, so here’s another that could be welcomed back after his stint in Broken Destiny but there’s an opportunity for an entirely different iteration here.

You could easily throw him in because he can travel through dimensions with the World Tree (connecting plot points) and the combat utilising the Leviathan Axe provided some of the best parts of God of War, so getting that into Soul Calibur 6 would be amazing as well.

I’m also just looking for an excuse to A) Hear that incredible voice again and B) See that absolutely magnificent beard in action.

Soul Charge?

You could easily throw the Blades of Chaos into the mix for his new state but the real winner for me is imagining how awesome his Critical Edge with the axe could be, plus Atreus providing hawners with the arrows.

4. Star Wars guest

Right, so let’s be real here, I don’t think this would ever happen but let me have my moment.

I’m absolutely up for Rey or Kylo Ren from the recent Star Wars movies making an appearance in 6.

It’s not out of the realm of possibility because we’ve had Yoda and Vader in previous titles (I’m not bringing The Apprentice back into this) and having some of the newer characters from the franchise would be an incredible coup for Bandai Namco.

The difficulty with it is how you utilise the Soul Charge ability with a character like Rey, but it could make Kylo into a total badass which, let’s be honest, it’s what he should be.

Would EA cave and let this happen again though?

5. Sekiro

This is one for the long game, but if we look at guest DLC characters then Sekiro could certainly make an appearance.

The utilisation of the poise fighting strategy would be perfect for a game like Soul Calibur and his grappling hook could provide a verticality to the gameplay that could be incredibly interesting.

Obviously, we don’t know much the rest of the Sekiro gameplay to identify a use for Soul Charge but I’m already sold on the fact that each round where you lose could make use of the revival mechanic have Sekiro rise from defeat.

This, and the fact that I’m absolutely down for seeing Mitsurugi and Sekiro battle it out.

There you have it, our list of some of the characters that we would love to appear in the new Soul Calibur but what do you think?
